Where Sound Meets Engineering

Rooted in a history of music and performance, Alex grew up playing drums in church. It was there he first learned about music, playing with a group, and the power of tuning. He would spend countless hours at home experimenting with different drum tunings to change the sound of the drum kit - from jazz to rock to metal stylings. It was there that he fell in love with the art of tuning and modifying instruments, and would go on to be hired by other drummers to tune their drums for them.

What came next is years of playing in bands, traveling on tour, recording in studios around Georgia, and learning Bass, Guitar, Piano, and other various instruments. It was at 18 years old that Alex first began recording his own bands at home, delving into the modern field of Audio Engineering. He would go on to teach himself music production skills like Mic Placement, Composition, Mixing, and Mastering.

It was in 2017 that Alex then came across a free piano being given away by a friend. When he and his dad moved it along with help from some friends, they noticed the piano was severely out of tune! “How does one tune a piano?” Alex thought to himself. “Surely it can’t be something too difficult!”. He went on to research and was shocked by the results: 237 individual strings on a piano, specialized tools, years to learn the process of tuning.

Amidst all of that, curiosity was greater than fear, so he decided to order a cheap tuning kit online and began to teach himself how to tune his piano. “It’s fine if I mess up my own piano…” he thought to himself. Alex would spend the next 3 years learning this skill, spending dozens and dozens of hours to fine tune his own process and produce results that were satisfactory to a music producer. It was thanks to his experience as an Audio Engineer and Drum Tuner that teaching himself tuning was possible!

In 2020, Alex began to offer piano tuning services to local Atlanta, GA residents. It was then that Alex found just how satisfying this work could be - transforming a piano from dissonant and out-of-tune to something glorious and harmonious. His clients would express their love for his tunings, and Alex would go on to tune for 15-20 clients for the next 5 years.

It was during those years that Alex was faced with challenges - things like sticky keys, broken pedals, and broken strings. “I don’t know how to fix those, I’m sorry! You can hire a Piano Technician to do that for you.” is a sentence that he would repeat often to his clients. The desire to take his craft to the next level would grow immensely over those years, and in 2025 he would finally secure the funding to go to school to become a certified Piano Technician!

Over the course of 3 long months in the winter of 2025 leading into the spring of 2026, Alex would take the courses from the online school offered from the Piano Technician Academy. This organization was affiliated with the international Piano Technicians Guild and offered a comprehensive curriculum at an affordable price. In March of 2026, Alex completed the curriculum and had even found a local piano technician mentor named Pascal Vieillard of https://a440pianos.com.

Alex now offers a vide variety of services for clients in Georgia, Alabama, Northern Florida, Tennessee, and South Carolina.
